| My favorite will always be Styx. On their Paradise Theater tour they made a stop in Sioux Falls and put one of the best shows I've ever seen on. My second choice would the show John Denver did in 1980; it went on for 3 hours. He play with vigor of a man on the first show a tour, but it was actually 130th show. |

The reason being, Garth did 6 or 7 shows here and tickets were less then $20. No, no one in this city wants to pay more than 20 for a show. Granted, we have had shows with higher ticket prices since then that, that have sold out. But in the overall spectram of things, that concert set the bar in this town for what people want to pay for a product. even when smaller clubs would bring in a mid-level act, it would fail due to the fact that no one wants to pay to see live music in this town if the price is 10-15 bucks. Its really sad. WE NEED AN EVENTS CENTER!!! Well no, we don/t, we wont use it the way it should be used. (dont get me started on the mayors PUT IT ON THE RIVER TO HELP MY FRINEDS project). We need a mid level club with the support of the cities people (one that all these "promoters," they call themselves, can agree on and support and advertise). then that will help a larger event facility. But we as a community will not support that. And God help us, THE 80's ARE OVER PEOPLE!!!! Def Leppord, Motley Crew, Kansas, KORY AND THE BUTTERFLYS??!?!?!?!! COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP WE ARE A JOKE TO EVERYONE else. We are stuck in the 80's and early 90's and it sucks. Thanks KRRO, thanks tank tops, the mullet, cameros, and Garth Brooks for hurting concerts in our town. |
Garth Brooks didn't hurt concerts. (I didn't go to his concerts) but it seemed like he looked out for the "little guy" so to speak. That was a gift. We need more entertainers with his kind of mindset. Kind of like Tom Petty if I remember right, taking on the record companies for the price of records. (CD's or cassette tapes for all you younger folks)
We're not even stuck in the 80's. I remember the 80's and we still didn't have the big concerts then. (Every once and awhile we would get something, but not like other cities) Not even in the late 70's. I was 12 when Elvis came here and even at that time I was suprised that he came here. Getting big name concerts has always been a challenge here in Sioux Falls, not because of Garth. And when we would get a decent concert, often, it wouldn't sell out.
Since you brought up the convention center. If they do happen to build one I would hope the strongly consider the land by I29 and the 229 exit. (near the Tea exit.) I think being right off of the interstate would be huge. I'm not for the downtown location. My 2 cents. |

Sure Garth was looking out "for the little guy". I think that was a nice gesture. But my point is, he set the bar for what average people are willing to pay to see a concert in this town. I am not faulting him for what he did but just pointing out a fact.
YES we are stuck in the 80's as far as music goes in this town. I am not going to argue that point jut look at the bands mentioned in this tread, it/s redicules. Remember the HUGE concert at Canaries stadiumlast month, WOW how cool was that?!?!?!?! Yes that is sarcasm.
The location of the convention center at either 29/229 or 90/29 would be perfect. I think 90/29 would be best due to the fact it catches North/South bands and east/west bands all in one location. However the price for the land at 29/229 is cheap (thanks sanford) and is easily accesable. Dowtown is a F'n joke, no one wants it there except for the Downtown Nazi Party. |
